The Sunshine Award

Fellow blogger and author Jeri Walker-Bickett has given me with The Sunshine Blogger Award. I would like to thank her for this award, as all of us in the blogging world know how far a little recognition can go. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Jeri over the last couple of years and, having read her marvelous collection of short stories “Such is Life,” I can’t wait to read her novel-in-progress “Lost Girl Road.”

The Sunshine Award is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers. The recipients are “Bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere.”

The way the award works is this… Recipients thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them. Answer questions about yourself. Select 10 of your favorite bloggers, link their blogs to your post and let them know they have been awarded the Sunshine Award! In my case, too many of my Sunshine-ing bloggers were already on Jeri’s list, so I’m winging it with the best of the ones unknown to Jeri.

Now, on to the questions…

1: What is your passion?

I’ve got twin passions that “dance” well together — story collecting and Argentine Tango. I find stories everywhere and they roll around in my head until they ferment into fiction. Some of that fermentation process happens on the back burner of my brain while I’m dancing. If you are imagining a red rose in my teeth, erase the picture. I don’t do the choreographed, theatrical Tango of dance contest TV shows, I dance the real deal Tango — the spontaneous, improvised, collaborative, lead & follow partner dance. That’s my Tango.

2: Favorite Time of the year?

Autumn.

3: Favorite book?

Impossible to nail it down to just one, but off the top of my head I’ll say that the original “Peter Pan and Wendy” by J.M. Barrie is up there in the top few. This is not the Disney Peter Pan, and it’s far from kid-friendly in a 21st century manner. J.M. Barrie’s story explores what it really means to be a child and the ambivalence inherent in becoming an adult.

4: Favorite movie?

This is also impossible, but being pressed I’d say “Young Frankenstein” is the best comedy and “Double Indemnity” is the best drama.

5: Favorite animal?

Cats. I didn’t even have to think about that one.

6: Favorite time of the day?

10:30 am, post-gym coffee time… Most mornings I sit in the window of my favorite coffee bar watching the world go by, writing my to-do list for the day and often jotting down ideas for stories.

7: Favorite flower?

Iris

8: Favorite non-alcoholic beverage?

COFFEE

9: Favorite physical activity?

That’s a trick question! I could say kissing or laughing or dancing or…

10: Favorite vacation?

I love to travel, so I’d have to say my favorite trip is whatever trip I’m planning next. Anticipation is fun and my next trip is to Venice!

Sunshine Blogging Award

Thank you again Jeri!

Please check out her blog: http://jeriwb.com/

My awardees are:

Kirsten Weiss of ParaYourNormal for her fun investigations of all things supernatural, mysterious and paranormal, plus book reviews and cool images. I’m also a fan of her Riga Hayworth series of paranormal mysteries. http://parayournormal.wordpress.com/

A.C. Flory of Meeka’s Mind because I’ve been hooked on this Australian blogger’s posts since I read about volcanoes of alpaca poop in her yard. She’s a gamer and science fiction author who has no limit to her blog topics — from international politics to recipes. A.C. Flory’s “VOKHTAH” and “The Vintage Egg” are not to be missed by science fiction readers: http://acflory.wordpress.com/

Lew Blaustein of Green Sports Blog for his adventures at the meeting point between the passion fans bring to sports and the passion they should, or could, put into making changes to ameliorate the climate crisis. Lew interviews all sorts of sports personalities and no sports angle is left unexplored: http://greensportsblog.com/

Bill Thompson of The Bookcast — this blog/podcast series focuses on Indie Authors and has introduced me to countless cool new books I’d have otherwise missed. Bill is a fabulous interviewer and he makes even the most nervous authors feel, and sound, composed and comfortable. He also blogs about various issues important to indies: http://www.thebookcast.com/

Since the Sunshine Award is meant to recognize blogs that inspire bloggers and my list of Awardees is a little short, I’m calling out two baby bloggers and hoping that they will be inspired by the wide range of voices I’ve singled out, to create great blogs. Both will be up and running soon — Shanna, of The Full Chakra, will blog about her unique corner of the world, a spot located somewhere between “Eat Pray Love” and “50 Shades of Grey.” Lisa, of the Bar Babe, has been amusing me with tales of the people she meets as a Manhattan bar tender for a long time and I’m convinced her blog posts will be a hoot!

Blog followers — please follow the links.

Baby bloggers — please feel inspired.

Bloggers — please accept the Sunshine Award.

  1. Wow, Candy, thank you! I’m delighted and grateful to be a recipient of The Sunshine Blogger Award. I’m getting to work right now to keep the chain unbroken. 🙂

Venice is my mom’s favorite city and two of my friends from Berlin will be there this fall so… a no-brainer for a mother/daughter trip. We’ll be in Venice for a short visit but I will make the most of it. What a beautiful city!

Ah Sweet Mystery of life I’ve found you…
      He was my BOYFRIEND!

The actresses are the often unsung stars of Young Frankenstein. All three are sooooo funny. It’s really an amazing movie with an extraordinary cast. Glad you love it too.

Have fun with the Sunshine Award!
